New Delhi, Jun. 28. Sacred Heart Theological college, Mawlai held its Annual Graduation ceremony on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2020 in Karotemprel Memorial Hall. The 25 graduates who passed out during the academic year 2019-20 received their graduation certificates from the chief guest, Fr. James Thyrniang, the Economer of the Salesian Province of Shillong. The occasion was graced by Fr. Dennis Lalfela, Registrar of the college and Fr. Philip Barjo, Rector of the college.

The function began with welcoming of the graduating students and welcome address by the Registrar Fr. Dennis Lalfela. Rev. Fr. James Thyrniang, Chief guest of the day, presided over the function and delivered an inspiring speech to the gathering and especially to the new graduating students. In his address, Rev. Fr. James Thyrniang referred to the graduates as ‘lambs of Jesus’ and exhorted them to go and find other sheep with whom they can share the good news. He congratulated the graduates and urged them to be sharers of Good News. This was followed by the award ceremony.

The college gave away five awards in memory of valiant missionaries and scholars who have worked in Northeast India. Piasecki Memorial Award instituted to honour Fr. Leo Piasecki who was known as the ‘Lion of the Brahmaputra Valley’ was awarded to Jerin Devassia for excellence in Missiology. Gutierrez Memorial Award in honour of Fr. Edward Gutierrez was awarded to Thomas Vithayathil for excellence in the study of Systematic Theology. Kanjuparambil Memorial Award, instituted to honour Fr. Philip Kanjuparambil was awarded to Haris Varghese for excellence in Scripture studies. The Fr. George Kottupallil Memorial Award was bagged by Julian Pradeep for excellence in the study of Church History. After the presentation of these awards the Chief guest gave away the certificates of graduation to the 25 graduates. The function was well attended by the students and the staff of the college as well as few invitees from neighbourhood.
